Conquer Tay Con Linh: An Adventurous Journey to the Roof of Northeast Vietnam

Tay Con Linh is a majestic mountain range located in the western part of Ha Giang. While not the highest peak in Vietnam, Tay Con Linh offers a much more challenging journey than the famous Fansipan. Unlike the well-paved roads leading to Indochina’s roof, the path to Tay Con Linh is remote and rugged, making it a rewarding adventure for avid trekkers.

As you make your way to Tay Con Linh, you’ll pass through remote areas with very few inhabitants, almost isolated from the modern world. The scenery continuously changes, from steep terrain to ancient Shan Tuyet forests and bamboo groves. The journey also offers the chance to admire the beautiful terraced rice fields cultivated by the locals.

What to Expect on the Tay Con Linh Trek
  • Unmatched natural beauty: Journey through diverse landscapes, from forests to terraced fields.
  • Remote wilderness: Explore untouched areas, far from modern civilization.
  • Cultural encounters: Engage with the local and immerse yourself in their rich traditions and way of life.

Notes:

  • Travelers should have a high level of physical fitness.
  • What to bring: a bottle of water, a raincoat, a hat, sunglasses, trekking shoes, trekking pants or shorts, sunscreen cream, and mosquito repellent.
  • Cultural notice: The local people usually make a toast with visitors by homemade wine; this is a traditional way to express their hospitality. If you don’t like to drink so much, just take a taste; it is an unforgettable experience.
  • Noise notice: In the nighttime, you may listen to some noise like the sound of insects, livestock, and dogs barking. Or in the early morning, you will hear the sound of begging Labor Day from local people. All of them are the simple sounds in the peaceful land, and you will soon get used to them.
  • Weather in Tay Con Linh: This is truly the highest mountain in northeast Vietnam, so the temperature here is about 18-24 degrees.
  • Dangerous animals: Maybe there are some dangerous animals in the remote areas, like tigers and snakes, but you can feel secure because they usually live in deep jungles.
